In building its first four-stroke trials bike. Gas Gas put a new twist on an old idea. The 350cc engine in that machine, simply called the 4-Strokc, is a side-valve (flathead) design that yields a motor about the same size, height-wise, as a comparable two-stroke. The cam and its followers are down in the engine case, pushing up directly on the ends of the valves, keeping weight very low. The liquid-cooled engine uses batteryless fuel-injection. And because the chassis is very much like that of the TXT trials models, the 4-Stroke weighs a mere 8 pounds more than the Pro 300 two-stroke.
