Like the basic type of unstoppable, go-anywhere, rock-climbing performance of a trials bike but don’t want a full-on competition model? Scorpa’s T-Ride may be the ideal answer. It’s powered by the engine from the company’s SY250F trialer but in an entirely different chassis that gives the bike the ability to serve as an off-road exploration bike. Though the steering geometry is very trials-like, the wheelbase is longer, the fuel tank is bigger and the dual seat can accommodate two for longer rides.

The SY-250F is the most serious four-stroke trials bike made by this French motorcycle manufacturer. It s powered by a dohc, four-valve Yamaha YZ250F motocross engine that has been heavily modified to meet the unique, slower-speed requirements of trials competition. The chassis is built around a chrome-moly steel frame equipped with a Marzocchi fork and Sachs shock. Also available: The SY200F a very similar trials model powered by an air-cooled, 163cc engine: and the SY125F, with a 123cc engine.

The SY-250 is Scorpa’s two-stroke competition trials bike, and just as with the four-stroke SY-250F, this one uses a suitably modified Yamaha 250 motocross-based engine. The frame is a chrome-moly steel unit outfitted with a Marzocchi fork and a Sachs shock. As is the case with most trials bikes, the compression ratio is comparatively low (8.4:1) and the carbure¬tor quite small (a 26mm Teikei), both of which help promote smooth running at ultra-low rpm.
