Looking for a uniquely styled bike? Or do you just want a low seat on a cruiser that is fairly small and light yet still has a V-Twin engine? If so, check out the GV650. With its adjustable upside-down fork, digital instrumentation, bright LED taillight and H-D V-Rod-esque styling, the GV speaks to modern riders. Dual front disc brakes appeal to the safety conscious, while maintenance-free belt final drive satisfies those who would rather ride than deal with oily chains. An optional windscreen offers weather protection for longer trips. Two-tone paint raises the price, and a Special Edition ups it even more.

It’s good lo see some new overseas manufacturers breaking into the U.S. market, and Hyosung, an accomplished Korean bike builder, is offering a well-equipped, reasonably priced sportbike with a full fairing. The GT650R is, in fact, a very Suzuki SV650S-like machine based on a proven V-Twin motor and chassis geometry, and it even is fitted with an upside-down fork. True to this bike’s sporting intent, it has clip-on handlebars, and adjustable footpegs arc a nice touch. It features a digital dash and an analog tach. Also available: The GT650S is a half-faired version of the R, and the GT650 is a naked version with a tubular handlebar.

If you’re on a budget or just don’t need a bigger bike, the GT250R is the Little Sportbike that Can. Priced like a scooter, the GT has big-bike sport-racer styling and an air/oil-cooled motor that provides more than enough pass¬ing and highway power. It has lots of appealing features that include dual projector-beam headlights, adjustable footpegs, dual front disc brakes, clip-on handlebars, a combination digital/analog instrument cluster and an inverted fork. Two-tone paint increases the price. Also available: The GT250 is the less-expensive naked version of the R-model that’s 15 pounds lighter.

For beginning riders, those looking for an inexpensive way to get into motorcycling, or people who simply don’t need a very big bike, the GV250 is an excellent choice. The small size and light weight of this little cruiser make it unintimidating for riders whose strength is not exactly their, ahem, strong suit. Those lacking in height will also appreciate the low seat and easy reach to the grips. The alloy wheels and two-tone paint are unique for a bike in this price range. Dual exhaust pipes and full fenders help the GV250 look much bigger than it really is.

Scooters can be a lot of fun while also being extremely practical. Take the SF50 Rally, for example. With its wide tires, full instrumentation and peppy two-stroke engine, it’s an easy rider for the urban jungle or the suburban mall scene. A passenger pillion pad and separate foot platforms allow you to take along a friend. Also available: The SF50 Prima, a similar model that carries a slightly lower price: and the basic-model SD50 Sense, which is even less expensive.

Most scooters are small, step-through models designed primarily for short, point-to-point transportation, but there is a class of scooter designed for longer hauls: maxi-scooters. While an engine size of 250cc might be considered a bottom-feeder in the maxi class, Hyosung’s entry into this market is equipped just like a bigger model. The 250 sports a counterbalanced, liquid-cooled, dohc four-stroke engine, plus linked brakes, integrated turnsignals and sleek styling.
